Saint-Nazaire and the Brière Marshland
Even if Saint-Nazaire is a town by the sea, it keeps at least one foot solidly on firm ground… or rather on peat! It is indeed one of the 17 towns and villages which have formed, since 1970, the Regional Park of Brière.
125,000 acres of peaty land, canals and endless horizons make for one of France’s most important wetlands. Saint-Nazaire does not exactly lie in the heart of the Brière but swamps and canals are part of the town’s natural heritage in its North-Eastern part.
